Rich Text Documents

Earlier versions of WriteRoom could edit rich text (.rtf) documents. WriteRoom 4 edits only plain text and Markdown documents. When you open a rich text document, its text and formatting import into a new Markdown copy.

To open a rich text document

File > Open… and choose the .rtf file

Your rich text file isn't changed. Save the copy to keep it as Markdown.
