I built WriteRoom with a mix of traditional programming and programming with LLMs. It started from three open source projects:
- Ropey stores the text
- wgpu draws the text and the interface
- CodeMirror's Markdown parser and editing commands, ported to Rust
Ropey and wgpu are still used as they are. The code ported from CodeMirror has been continuously adapted to fit WriteRoom's needs.
WriteRoom also owes a lot to:
- DEC CRT Typography, which shaped the DEC Terminal theme
- Makepad, which inspired the heading overview and GPU drawing
- Thock's sound engine, and the kbsim sound packs by Thomas Lai
Help > Third-Party Licenses lists all the code WriteRoom uses, with its licenses.
Many friendly Mac developers have answered my dumb questions so I could get things working. Thanks!
