Appearance
Markdown Beyond WriteRoom
Your documents are plain Markdown files, so other apps can preview, convert, and publish them. WriteRoom is for writing. These pick up from there.
Preview as You Write
Marked shows a Markdown file as a styled web page, and redraws it each time the file is saved. WriteRoom saves on its own as you write, so keep Marked open beside your window and watch the page change. Marked can also export to PDF and Word.
Convert and Publish
Pandoc converts Markdown to almost anything: Word, PDF through LaTeX, EPUB books, slides, and web pages. It reads footnotes, tables, math, front matter, and the extensions in More Markdown, so a document written in WriteRoom converts as written.

Websites
Static site generators like Hugo, Jekyll, and Eleventy build a website from a folder of Markdown files. This guide is written that way, in Markdown, and built with VitePress.
Other Markdown Apps
Apps like Obsidian and Typora keep your notes as Markdown files in a folder. WriteRoom can open those same files directly, with nothing to import or export. Draft in WriteRoom, and organize or publish from the other app.
What Travels
Headings, emphasis, lists, links, footnotes, tables, and code read the same almost everywhere.
Some marks are extensions, and apps that don't know them show them as you typed them:
- Highlights:
==highlighted== - Superscript and subscript:
x^2^andH~2~O - Attributes:
{#id .class}after a heading - Math:
$E = mc^2$needs an app that typesets it. GitHub, Obsidian, and Pandoc do.
If a document is headed somewhere specific, check how that place reads these first.
